La Caveja Piadineria

An excellent fast food cafe is located near the Monumento Ai Carabinieri in the center of Milan. Here you can have a quick, and most importantly, hearty and inexpensive meal.

The menu consists almost entirely of traditional flatbreads - piadin - with a variety of fillings: meat, fish, vegetable and even sweet ones, with nutella. Piadins cost from 5 €. La Caveja Piadineria also makes good alcoholic cocktails: Spritz Aperol (with Prosecco), Negroni (based on Campari liqueur) and others.

Luna rossa

At first glance, Luna Rossa looks like other inexpensive cafes in Milan: small, modest and clean premises, a line of hungry local residents and a simple menu of focaccia, pizza and calzoni. But once you dine here at least once, you won't feel like looking for anything else.

At Luna Rossa, you can eat real pasta - it is prepared according to 30 different recipes, ranging from the classic Al Pesto and Alla Carbonara to Al ragù di anatra (pasta with duck stew). The pizza in the restaurant is also excellent - it's not for nothing that the Milanese themselves willingly run here to dine.

Another nice bonus is many delicious ones, including the famous tiramisu and panna cotta. The cost of food is on average 6-10 €.

Pizzeria Piccola Ischia

Piccola Ischia is popular in Milan: 15 minutes after opening, there is literally nowhere for an apple to fall inside. Perhaps the main reason for this is the tasty and inexpensive pizza, which everyone, young and old, is in a hurry to eat here. It can be ordered in any of 3 options: piccola (€ 2.50-6.50), media (€ 3.80-16) and grande (€ 5.50-13).

Inside, the Pizzeria Piccola Ischia room is designed like a small old town square with tables. Above, from stylized decorative balconies, ordinary Milanese “glance” at the guests of the restaurant with curiosity.

The attractiveness of the pizzeria also contributes to the quite budgetary prices for food in Milan - calzoni and panini cost in the range of 4-10 €. represented by wines, liqueurs (including limoncello) and beer.

doesn't have to be pretentious and ultra-expensive. To be convinced of this, be sure to drop by the light of Pasquale Pometto, one of the greatest Italian pizza makers of our time.

And even if the pizza from the Pasquale master is a little more expensive than in simple eateries around the city (its price here is from 10 to 13 €), but you will simply lick your fingers! The service is also incredibly impressive: good-natured, welcoming and cheerful. Already at the entrance you will be greeted with a glass of sparkling Prosecco and slices of pizza to sample and quickly escorted to a free table - if there is one, of course. The restaurant is extremely popular and there are queues of people wanting to eat here even on the street.

Just a few dozen meters from POMET, there is another inexpensive establishment Pasquale Pometto - Piz.

An excellent restaurant on a quiet street near the center of the Old Town - one of the best inexpensive places in Milan. Despite the fact that there is always no end to visitors, the atmosphere inside is family-friendly, and many come here to take a break from the endless hustle and bustle.

The main things to try at San Tomaso are pasta, wine and desserts. Tagliatelle with shrimp and zucchini, trophy with pesto sauce, spaghetti with octopus - you can enjoy them for only 8 €. A glass of local wine will be a pleasant addition to your meal, and for dessert, be sure to try tiramisu - it is deliciously prepared here.

If you want to diversify the menu and eat delicious and inexpensive meat delicacies in Milan, be sure to pay a visit to Salsamenteria di Parma. The restaurant is located in the city center, not far from the majestic Milan Cathedral.

The local menu seems to be created to get acquainted with the national cuisine of the country. There are also famous ones: parmigiano, pecorino, mozzarella, gorgonzola - and several types of classic corn polenta, and, of course, amazing lasagna. But the “highlight of the program” is still meat snacks and dishes: prosciutto, pancetta, mortadella, salsiccia, braised pork cheeks, beef stracotto, carpaccio, trippa. The cost of food is in the range of 9-15 €. The portions are large.

The restaurant has an interesting tradition - to serve wines in bowls. But if it seems too extravagant to you, ask for glasses or glasses - your request will be immediately fulfilled.

Authentic Italian prosciutto, one of a network of establishments throughout Italy. You will not feel such an incredible atmosphere in any other restaurant in Milan. As it should be, hams and sausages are hung from the ceiling, and the shelves on the walls are lined with bottles of the best wine. There are many tables in the small room - a bit crowded, but very cozy and colorful.

The choice of food - for every taste: inexpensive panini, salads, cheeses, hams, sausages, several types. A glass of wine costs from 5 €. For two to drink alcohol, you can order a huge wooden board with a variety of snacks (15-20 €). In all respects, a great place to enjoy excellent wine and delicious meat and cheese delicacies.

Friends, I greet you!

We continue to rummage through the dirty laundry and sculpt travel stories from our recent trip to Italy. I hope you have already inquired about a ride to Italy, how the situation is there and which one you can concoct for yourself, if you know how.

Today I will pour on liters of information about all the methods and means that we have used in Italy for obtaining food.

So, the main question of the text sounds like this, where to eat inexpensively in Milan, in order to also remain satisfied. Let's look, understand, check receipts from restaurants and flip through the menus of establishments.

Let's get started.

In the course of this printed story, I will not flaunt my encyclopedic knowledge in front of you, pretend to be a gourmet and connoisseur of Italian cuisine. I have always considered Italians to be the happiest gluttons in the world.

Taste the incomparable pasta in a bite with the "Greek" or "Caesar" salad, simultaneously dipping a solid piece of pizza into the sauce and grinding the "surface" with a glass of fragrant Chianti. Well, how can a person after that be angry, displeased, and just offended.

If there is happiness in culinary pleasures, then it should be permanently based on the territory of juicy Italy.

In the text, you will not find lists of top Milan restaurants awarded honored masters of knife and fork "Misha and Lena".

In the course of the conversation, I will simply talk about our experience of feeding on the streets of northern Italy, as well as give some tips and advice. Stay close, for some information is best kept on your ears.

If you don't want to listen to me, you can listen to the exerts. They will not only tell you, but also show Milan gastronomic on your next trip.

Pizzerias in Milan

It was here that the first bummer lay in wait for us. We did not manage to eat the thinnest layers of dough, adorned with colorful vegetables and cheese. Either we were looking in the wrong place, or they put it on our plate in the wrong place. But we never saw a tasty, juicy and unforgettable pizza during our entire trip.

The unconquered image of the spiritual tasting of the first dish of Italy in the evening hours remains in my memory. on the steps of the canals of Venice ... There, pizza really claimed the title of a work of art and a masterpiece of cooking. Here…. I am disappointed!

Thick, thick layer of pizza

A couple of times we went to a pizzeria, where we were offered various types of pizza on an unrealistically thick dough. This is what pizza looked like made in my mama, when she, back in 1996, mastered the basics of a hitherto unprecedented culinary.

Okay, so 1996, but what's going on in Milan? Do Milanese like these chicks of dough?

Moreover, these pieces dough stuffed (I won't call them pizza) are in their infancy. Before selling them, they are put into a special stove or (oh, bastard!) A banal oven and brought to readiness. Well at least they do without microwaves.

Pizza in restaurants

In various establishments you can order pizza to the table. It costs a lot of 7-12 euros , and sharing it with someone else is to your detriment. It is unlikely that one portion can kill 2 birds with one stone and feed two family members at once.

Of the shortcomings, I want to note:

  • sloppy decoration of the top ball and uneven distribution of ingredients
  • economical use in the preparation of cheese (it would seem!).

For the first time, it seemed to us that the cook sausages and dropped meats on pizza rather than spread it out. The view was mediocre.

But when we for the first time almost did not find cheese on an ordinary pizza, we ordered 4 cheese pizza in another cafe. There was already more cheese here, but still, this was clearly not enough.

If our restaurants in Sevastopol were so economical on cheese, they would see customers only at the moment of opening.

Pizzeria around the corner

Desperate to try a slice of the coveted pizza in a restaurant or fast food cafe, I decided to look for an ordinary pizzeria in Milan. Mopeds with delivery were scrolling along the street, which means there should be such organizations.

From our experience of a trip to Venice, we remember very well these simple but incredibly useful places, where after 10 minutes of waiting you could already leave happy with a box of hot pizza in your hands.

But here's a bummer. For 3 days I combed my area for such places, and besides, I looked out of the windows of the tram and bus at the same time - nothing! Once I was lucky to see something like a pizzeria, but I can't give a grudge.

But all around full of some bakeries where you can buy bread, pies, croissants and other calories.

Most likely, the situation here is the same as with the delivery of sushi in Sevastopol. Someone in the kitchen sculpts an order and sends nimble students on mopeds on call.

Restaurants in Milan

For my time and eyes, I have long given up on finding the places I want using reports from other travelers and Tripadvisor. Despite the fact that this is a very fun method, it is not very productive and time consuming.

I love to use guides from independent travelers ... Why? Because everything is always thought out in the complex and the cafes and restaurants you need are shown along the way, and not as separate types of attractions.

It’s painfully vivid in my memories of those first family travel scandals, when I, drawn by a map and an idea, forced my family members to travel kilometers in search of an imaginary cafe.

So this time I just opened Milan in 1 day and I already had 10 options where you can sit down during lunch in the city center.

Expensive cafes and restaurants

Judging by my scale of values, my upbringing and religion does not allow me to spend 30-50 euros on food per person for 1 sitting. This is beyond the scope of both my budget and horizons.

Therefore, all the star restaurants "overlooking the Duomo ..." or "located on the roof of a 5 * hotel ..." I missed with my eyes.

When I have access to a corporate credit card or unlimited access to the kitchen and bar of any institution, then I will be the first to tell you about all the delights of haute cuisine. In the meantime, I pay the bills, then…. Sorry.

Menu of the day or menu al giorno

This is a very good opportunity to have a meal during lunch for the amount about 10 euros... Such an analogue of the familiar to us business lunch .

The filling of this menu will vary from restaurant to restaurant.

Watch out for small alliances - they are the whole point. Where it seems to you an enumeration with the union and (e - in Italian), it can be just or (0 - in Italian). So if there is a lot of text there, this does not mean that you will see all this on your table.

Well, as a rule, drinks are not included in the menu, and this is another item of expenses.

In addition, the menu of the day is served mainly on weekdays and strictly at the hours indicated on the announcement. Usually from 12.00 to 14.00, plus or minus half an hour. After that, you will only order from the menu.

Lunch siesta

Despite the fact that Milan cannot be called hot cities, the catering staff are faithful to traditions here as well.

Most cafes and restaurants close for lunch siesta.

So do not delay with lunch and until 15.00 maximum, eat the portion you are supposed to. Otherwise, you will then wait until 17.00-18.00 or eat pies from the nearest supermarket.

Milan aperitifs

After working hours and before dinner, roughly speaking from 17.30 to 21.00, in many establishments of the city there is a gathering of local residents for traditional gatherings with a glass of cocktail. Something in the spirit of our happy hour.

You are offered a range of alcohol-containing cocktails, either at a discounted rate or bundled with free snacks.

It often looks like this. On the bar counter or separate tables, the café-bar displays various kinds of snacks (tapas) in the form of olives, cucumbers, fries, mini-slices of pizza, etc. Someone manages this to eat and then does not go to dinner .

Milan cafe

Cafes or cafeterias in Italy are wildly popular with Italians in the morning. If we have coffee on the way to work in a cafe, only the heroes of the Cord's song can afford "You are lucky you are not like everyone else, you work in an office!" , then even retirees drink it outside the house.

By the way, it should be said that it costs only 1.00-1.30 for a regular espresso or 1.20-1.60 for a cappuccino. And if for us it is some tens of rubles or hryvnia, then for them “a ruble is the price” or practically nothing!

Coffee, by the way, is very, very strong. It's not even coffee, but some kind of coffee concentrate! But more on that below.

In the morning in a cafe you can order yourself a coffee with a croissant and right at the bar, like all decent Italians, arrange your breakfast ... In the same cafes, you can buy water, gum and tobacco products. Cigarettes around 4.00 euros per pack.

Prices for bakery products are 0.90 - 1.50 euros.

As it turned out, you can also order tea here. But it will be tea in a teapot and costs 3.00-4.00 euros.

Lungo coffee or Americano?

I think you are familiar with our coffee concentration gradation. ristretto espresso americano ... All milk containing cocktails such as cappuccino, latte, I do not take into account.

So, in Venice we always took Lungo coffee and asked separately add hot water ... All this was served to us in medium-sized mugs, where you could add hot water at your discretion without any problems.

For all 5 days in Northern Italy, at the request of café Lungo, we were given a banal ristretto. Take a simple mini espresso cup and pour half or more of the coffee into it. There is simply nowhere to add hot water.

Despite the fact that many bartenders (and women) frowned at my ordering cafe Lungo e un po acua caldo, this was the only way to drink normal coffee, although still strong.

Why not order an Americano coffee right away?

As it turned out, the reaction to such an order is different for everyone, but in any case, the drink you will receive is not what you expect. Someone will make you a double portion, someone will pour some coffee-colored crusts, and someone in general grab the kettle from the coffee machine, where the coffee dripped yesterday by the filter method.

But! In any case, we were charged the price 1.5-2 times more expensive what is the cost of an ordinary drink. For what? Tax on those who can't drink their coffee concentrate?

Restaurants and cafes to remember

Friends, I hope you have enough information for the course of a young fighter. Let's conclude with a little clarity and go through the names that you might find useful at first. Then you will already decide everything according to the situation and try to cope with hunger by any means at hand.

I'll give some tips, but it's easier and more convenient to have maps. maps.me on the phone and put the necessary tags at home.

If you don't know anything about cards maps.me, then I wonder how you can still travel the world. Be sure to brush up on your knowledge at my colleague.

Cafe-bar Magenta

From the one I mentioned guidebook, this is cafe number 1. The cafe opened its activities in the distant 1907 and has been keeping the brand for more than 100 years. All and sundry people hang out here, from students to white collars.

The coffee is delicious, the choice of cocktails is massive, the entourage is authentic, the prices are reasonable. In general, you can go. By the way, in the evening, after 18.00, prices for daytime items: tea, coffee, croissants almost double.

It works from 7.30 to 02.00, and the movement itself is here early in the morning and from 18.00 to 21.00. Located next to the station Metro Cadorna and the area of the same name.

Gelateria Ciacco

One of the city's most popular ice cream parlors. We also visited here. Yes, the ice cream is delicious. It costs 2.00-3.00 euros, depending on the size of the cup.

In addition, here you can have a standard coffee with a croissant or brioche with cream. Prices for coffee and sweets, as elsewhere, are not high.

Open from 8.00 to 21.00. Located 30 meters from the entrance to Pinakothek Ambrosian .

This is a good option to eat hearty and not expensive, but without frills. But, frankly, what you need for lunch, especially if he found you next to Duomo Cathedral.

Here you can order both from the menu and order yourself combo menu for 9.00 euros ... You can offer a choice of the first dish, the second dish and vegetables, all in 1 plate. Do not be alarmed, the first course is not borscht or hodgepodge. First, the Italians have pasta, risotto and salads.

In general, they will pile you a full plate, ask for everything, but pay for drinks separately. Water 2.00 euros, sprite 3.00 euros, and a beer or glass of wine 4.00-5.00 euros.

Hearty, but not very tasty. Eatery…

Open from 12.00 to 23.00. Located 150m from the Duomo. For a reference point, take McDonalds on the halfway.

Panzerotti Luini

When we migrated along the streets of Milan in the center at lunchtime, we saw a line that stood in this bakery for local panzerotti. There is a lot of noise and everyone chews happily. We didn't want to eat fast food, but we noticed the place.

Already one evening we remembered about this wonderful food in national colors and decided to taste the delicacy. And what came of it?

Ordinary pies, fried in oil, but instead of our usual fillings: potatoes, cabbage, rice with an egg, they have mozzarella with tomatoes, mozzarella with ham, pesto with spinach and sweet tastes.

In general, if you wanted to eat a Milanese cheese pie for 2.50-3.00 euros apiece, then this is the place for you. Although, our pies are much cheaper!

Located two steps or 100 meters from the cathedral, next to the trattoria Al cantinone... Open from 10.00 to 20.00

Cafe Bar Brera

Not a bad bustling place on a famous street. In the morning they drink coffee here, at lunchtime you can not have an expensive lunch, and in the evening you can hang out with local youth.

Located opposite the entrance to Pinacoteca Brera ... Works from 07.00 to the victorious. If you don't like something there, then on the contrary there is a similar institution with the name Jamaica .

Camparino in Galleria

But I recommend this place to all lovers of liqueur-based cocktails. Campari... This is a branded bar located at the entrance to gallery Vittorio Emmanuele II and the façade overlooks the famous Duomo.

Here you can try their signature cocktails, and in the evenings drop in for the traditional aperitif, which I wrote about above.

That's how we are, before we go to La Scala theater , popped in here for half an hour to slap a cocktail.

In the evening, somewhere from 18.00 to 20.00, all sorts of snacks are put on the counter. So pay 5.50 for a Campari Clasico and enjoy it with snacks overlooking the chic Milan Cathedral.

Fabulous!

Opening hours are approximately from 8.00 to 20.00.

Milanese ordering system

You just need to get used to this and know so as not to raise a wave and not move against the current. So, an order in small trattorias, cafes and bars, working mostly without a waiter, looks like this:

  1. You choose what you want and announce your order to the distributor or simply check the menu
  2. Now you go to the cashier and competently pay what you have chosen yourself
  3. With the check, you return either to the bartender, or to the place where your order will be given to you, where you are waiting for the desired services.

And so the crowd of people circulates in a chaotic manner. The handlers and distributors still have time to conduct a dialogue with someone, so it all looks like one big mess.

I personally I prefer our distribution system , where you move to the cashier with a tray of selected sweets and you are counted there. Than, not knowing the ford, you pay for the order at the checkout, and then you go and see what you paid for.

Supermarket food

Given the modest set of dishes and time, there was no desire to cook in our rented apartment. But the urgent need to save money required a little witchcraft at the stove.

In general, for breakfast, we bought 100% food in the supermarket, and sometimes dinner consisted of boiled dumplings or pasta. So what to do? So 300 euros flew away for provisions in 4.5 days. Otherwise, I would generally go beyond the strategic stocks on the Master Card.

What can you profit from on the shelves of popular Carefour or Ashan? Yes, in principle, the same as ours. Here are just a lot more options for slicing synthetic meat and vegetables in plastic baskets.

We took small dumplings by weight with meat (with meat?), Plastic vegetables without taste and pasta with various sauces.

Personally, from my experience of visiting southern Italy, the situation in Milan in terms of food I would call it catastrophic ... Although our capitals live in the same time trouble.

But the person will tell you about pizza))

Where to have a drink in Milan?Bar Basso (Via Plinio, 39) is the place where this cocktail was born.

Cotoletta in Milanese / Cotoletta alla Milanese

Ossobucco

What's this?Veal shank stew.

Where to find?Searching will be easy: ossobuco can be found in every restaurant serving traditional cuisine.

Panettone

What's this? Delicate delicious muffin with raisins and candied fruits.

What does it look like? A bit like an Easter cake.

As it is?With a glass of something warm and moderately sweet in hand.

Where to find?If you go to Milan for Christmas, Panettone will find you first.

Mondegili / Mundeghili

What's this?Meatballs that were invented so that nothing was thrown away (and therefore everything was added to them).

What does it look like?Depends on what was actually stuffed into them. But usually it can be compared with some very tasty zrazny.

Busecca

What's this?Another meaty dish, this time from giblets. Usually with beans.

What does it look like?It looks scary. The taste is not for everybody. But it's an interesting experience.

As it is? With closed eyes, n sprinkling with grated cheese.

Where to find?At the Hosteria de la Busecca on Via Barni, 15.

Michetta

What's this? Cute burger.

What's this?Italian version of cornmeal porridge.

What does it look like?To hominy. Or ganets (this is Slovenian).

As it is?It can be used as a side dish, or as an independent dish (but then something needs to be added to it, for example, meat or mushrooms). There is also a sweet version with berries.

Where to find? The much-admired polenta can be found in Masuelli San Marco (Viale Umbria, 80).

Barbajada

- bars, cafes, bistros and restaurants - the menu of which will pleasantly surprise you!

An Italian breakfast has nothing to do with a hearty Russian breakfast, which takes at least half an hour of culinary effort. If, in your understanding, in the morning it is worth having a good supply of energy for the whole working day, then Italians treat their first meal with their inherent ease. Like a ritual, the inhabitants of Milan, before work, go to one of their favorite bars in order to order a cup of cappuccino and something from fresh pastries (in Italy, as in France, a bun is called "brioche" ( fr. une brioche), and also, Milanese are no less fond of croissants than Parisians). In the corner of the cafeteria, you will surely find today's newspaper or a sports issue, to which every now and then a whole line of men line up. Surprisingly, this symbolic breakfast is more than enough for Italians ... However, if you are not ready for such changes, then today's review is prepared just for you!

A cozy haven for all those with a sweet tooth, as well as those who will not give up a pleasant start to the working day, was founded by three friends - Diego, Giovanni and Luca. From the very first seconds, you are delighted to be immersed in the Pavé atmosphere: a spacious room decorated with old furniture, which was given a second chance, bookshelves, lots of light and pleasant music. In this “microclimate”, the confectionery laboratory prepares mouth-watering surprises for each guest, filling the space with enticing aromas of freshly baked bread and delicious cakes. What could be better than the smell of fresh baking in the morning? And by the way, the magic of this place is not at all hidden from visitors - only huge windows blocking the kitchen and reception area separate you from the magic!
